CPL 2021 Cricket

Which team won the CPL 2020 and how. Find out all that’s there to know!

Trinbago Knight Riders emerged as the winners of the Caribbean Premier League (CPL) 2020 title after comfortably beating St Lucia Zouks by eight wickets. This was the fourth time that Trinbago Knight Riders won the CPL title, making them the league’s most successful team by a considerable margin.

St Lucia Zouks batted first in the final match and set a target of 155 runs in 20 overs for Trinbago Knight Riders. Andre Fletcher was the top scorer for St Lucia Zouks, having scored 39 runs on 27 balls. Key contributions came from Mark Deyal (29 runs), Najibullah Zadran (24 runs), and Roston Chase (22 runs).

Tight bowling by Trinbago Knight Riders ensured St Lucia Zouks lost all their ten wickets within 20 overs. Kieron Pollard was the destroyer-in-chief, as he took 4 wickets, including those of Fletcher, Chase, and Zadran. Ali Khan and Fawad Ahmed took 2 wickets each.

While chasing, Trinbago Knight Riders got initial hiccups when they lost the wickets of Tion Webster and Tim Seifert cheaply. But that was all that the bowlers of St Lucia Zouks could do. Subsequently, Lendl Simmons and Darren Bravo went about chasing business with clinical precision.

Simmons scored 84 runs off just 49 deliveries, including 4 sixes and 8 fours. On the other hand, Bravo scored 58 runs off 47 deliveries, hammering 6 sixes. As a result, Trinbago Knight Riders won with 11 balls to spare.

Trinbago Knight Riders’ route to Caribbean Premier League (CPL) 2020 title

Trinbago Knight Riders beat St Lucia Zouks

Trinbago Knight Riders had a great run in the CPL 2020 tournament. The team did not lose even one match of the 12 games it played. It won most of its matches comfortably, reminding everyone why it is the league’s most successful team.

Trinbago Knight Riders won all 10 matches of the league stage. Compared to that, the second positioned team at the league stage – Guyana Amazon Warriors – could win only 6 of the 10 games.

The following table shows how Trinbago Knight Riders won all the 10 league matches.

Date Match Result
18-Aug-20 Guyana Amazon Warriors vs Trinbago Knight Riders Trinbago Knight Riders won by 4 wickets
20-Aug-20 Jamaica Tallawahs vs Trinbago Knight Riders Trinbago Knight Riders won by 7 wickets
23-Aug-20 Barbados Tridents vs Trinbago Knight Riders Trinbago Knight Riders won by 19 runs
26-Aug-20 Trinbago Knight Riders vs St Lucia Zouks

Trinbago Knight Riders won by 6 wickets

27-Aug-20 Trinbago Knight Riders vs Guyana Amazon Warriors Trinbago Knight Riders won by 7 wickets
29-Aug-20 Barbados Tridents vs Trinbago Knight Riders

Trinbago Knight Riders won by 2 wickets

01-Sep-20 Jamaica Tallawahs vs Trinbago Knight Riders Trinbago Knight Riders won by 19 runs
02-Sep-20 St Kitts & Nevis Patriots vs Trinbago Knight Riders Trinbago Knight Riders won by 59 runs
05-Sep-20 St Lucia Zouks vs Trinbago Knight Riders Trinbago Knight Riders won by 23 runs
06-Sep-20 Trinbago Knight Riders vs St Kitts & Nevis Patriots Trinbago Knight Riders won by 9 wickets

As the table shows, the margin of victory was slim (2 wickets) only in one match against Barbados Tridents that was played on August 29, 2020. In all other matches, Trinbago Knight Riders won easily.

In fact, hardly anyone expected them to win that particular match against Barbados Tridents. Trinbago Knight Riders was chasing 149 on a slow pitch and had lost 5 wickets for just 62 runs.

The pitch was slow even as 87 more runs were needed to win off just 44 deliveries. But then Kieron Pollard walked in and scored 72 runs off just 28 balls, winning the match for his team.

Players like Sunil Narine, Colin Munro, Dwayne Bravo, Khary Pierre, and Lendl Simmons played a vital role in other matches to help Trinbago Knight Riders win.

Sunil Narine was adjudged the ‘Player of the Match’ in two games for his outstanding performance. Narine showed his talent both with the ball and bat to win matches for his team. In a match against Guyana Amazon Warriors, he scored 50 runs off just 28 balls and took 2 wickets as well.

In another match against Jamaica Tallawahs, Narine scored 53 runs off 38 deliveries to win the match for his team. Similarly, Colin Munro was declared ‘Player of the Match’ in two matches for scoring a half-century against Barbados Tridents in one match and making 65 runs against Jamaica Tallawahs in another match.

Trinbago Knight Riders has a line-up of superbly talented players. Nowhere was it more evident than in the semi-final clash against Jamaica Tallawahs.

In that match, Trinbago Knight Riders’ two left-arm spinners, Akeal Hosein and Khary Pierre took five wickets combined to crush the opposition’s batsmen. As a result, Jamaica Tallawahs could score only 107 runs, a score not exactly worthy of a semi-final contest.

Later, Trinbago Knight Riders’ batsman took it upon themselves to hammer the bowlers of Jamaica Tallawahs all over the park. Doing so, Lendl Simmons scored 54 runs, and Tion Webster scored 44 runs to take their team to victory when five overs were yet to be bowled.

How’s Trinbago Knight Riders likely to perform in CPL 2021?

For CPL 2021, Trinbago Knight Riders has retained 12 players from its title-winning squad of the previous year. These include Kieron Pollard, Sunil Narine, Colin Munro, Darren Bravo, Lendl Simmons, Khary Pierre, Sikandar Raza, Anderson Phillip, Tion Webster, Akeal Hosein, Jayden Seales, and Ali Khan.

That’s a wise decision because most of these players have proved themselves to be match-winners. Meanwhile, Trinbago Knight Riders accepted the request of Dwayne Bravo, who had been a key player, to move to St Kitts & Nevis Patriots. Trinbago Knight Riders still has a formidable line-up, which is expected to perform well in Caribbean Premier League (CPL) 2021.

CPL 2021 Cricket

When and where will Caribbean Premier League 2021 matches be played? Check out the CPL 2021 Fixtures!

The ninth season of one of the most popular Twenty20 International (T20) cricket leagues, Caribbean Premier League (CPL) 2021, is set to begin on August 26.

Overall, 33 matches will be played between August 26 and September 15, including 30 league games, 2 semi-final matches, and 1 final match. All 33 matches of CPL 2021 will be played at Warner Park in Basseterre, the capital city of Saint Kitts and Nevis.

It’s rare that all matches are played at the same venue. So, when the CPL announced that Warner Park, Saint Kitts and Nevis would host all the fixtures, there were concerns that it could deteriorate the pitch quality and put pressure on the park’s infrastructure.

But the administrators clarified that there are six training grounds around St Kitts, which franchises will use for training. It means that Warner Park is only hosting the matches, as it won’t be used for training.

Six teams will participate in the league: Guyana Amazon Warriors, Trinbago Knight Riders, Barbados Tridents, St Kitts & Nevis Patriots, Jamaica Tallawahs, and St Lucia Zouks.

Each team will play ten league matches. During the league stage, all teams will play against each other twice, totalling 30 league matches overall. Since league matches aren’t an elimination round, teams will have ample opportunity to make comebacks.

At the end of league matches, the top 4 teams will advance to the semi-finals, the knock-out stage. Both the semi-final matches are scheduled for September 14 2021. The winning teams will move to the Final, which will be played on September 15 to decide the winner of the Caribbean Premier League (CPL) 2021 title.

A total of 33 matches over 21 days may seem like a tight schedule for the Caribbean Premier League (CPL) 2021, but this is the best the administrators could do this year. The Indian Premier League’s (IPL) second half will also be played soon after CPL 2021 is over.

This is the only window for CPL 2021 to happen, also considering that many players participate in IPL and CPL both. But cricket punters are not complaining because CPL 2021 is sure going to be a thrilling T20 tournament with exciting matches and talented players.

Some of the top international cricketers, like Kieron Pollard, Dwayne Bravo, Anrich Nortje, Chris Gayle, Shakib Al Hasan, Andre Russell, and Mohammad Amir will play in CPL 2021, which will make it an edge of the seat affair.

CPL 2021 Cricket

A brief history of the Caribbean Premier League (CPL) – Previous Winners, Runners Up, Top Scorers, and More!

The Caribbean Premier League (CPL) is a Twenty20 International (T20) cricket tournament played annually in the Caribbean. It attracts some of the best cricketers from the West Indies and other countries like Sri Lanka, Pakistan, Australia, South Africa, and India.

In 2013, Cricket West Indies founded CPL as the premier Caribbean T20 cricket tournament of the Caribbean. Earlier, Caribbean Twenty20 was the main T20 competition there, but CPL replaced it. The West Indies board also sealed an agreement with entrepreneur Ajmal Khan for CPL’s funding.

Ajmal Khan is a famous businessman in the Caribbean, having founded several enterprises, including Verus International, a Barbados-based merchant bank.

Interestingly, Hero MotoCorp Ltd, a leading motorcycle and scooter manufacturer based in New Delhi, India, is the main sponsor of CPL. That’s why the tournament is also called Hero CPL.

Six teams, each representing a country from the West Indies, participate in CPL – Guyana Amazon Warriors, Jamaica Tallawahs, St Lucia Zouks, Barbados Tridents, Trinbago Knight Riders, and St Kitts & Nevis Patriots.

The idea of having country-based teams helps in marketing cricket in those territories. Additionally, it gives an opportunity to young players to participate in an international-level league to hone their skills and become better cricketers.

Trinbago Knight Riders was earlier called Trinidad and Tobago Red Steel. They had a name change after Red Chillies Entertainment, the parent company of Kolkata Knight Riders, an Indian Premier League (IPL) team, bought a stake in Trinidad and Tobago Red Steel in 2015.

In the initial seasons of CPL, Antigua Hawksbills, a franchise team from Antigua and Barbuda, used to participate; however, its performance was never up to the mark even when legendary Antiguan cricketer, Sir Vivian Richards, had coached it in 2013.

Antigua Hawksbills stood fifth in CPL 2013 and finished last in CPL 2014. Later, in 2015, many players from the team chose to play for a new franchise, St Kitts & Nevis Patriots, and Antigua Hawksbills decided not to participate in CPL.

Even though CPL is still a relatively young cricket league, it has provided a lot of action and excitement not only for cricket lovers, but also for sports punters. Read on as we discuss interesting facts about CPL, winners list, top teams, best batsmen and bowlers.

Interesting facts about the best performing teams, top scorers, & wicket-takers of the Caribbean Premier League (CPL)

In 2015, he was adjudged the ‘Player of the Series’ for taking 28 wickets and helping his team, Trinbago Knight Riders, win the cup. Dwayne Bravo continued his excellent run in CPL 2016 as well by taking 21 wickets.

CPL 2021 Cricket

Caribbean Premier League (CPL) 2021 Predictions for Winner, Runner-Up, Top Scorer, and more!

One of the prominent Twenty20 cricket leagues globally, the Caribbean Premier League (CPL), is set to begin its ninth season from August 26. Whether you’re a cricket lover or a punter, now is the time to analyse the team line-ups, the strengths and weaknesses of each player, the quality of the pitch, and playing conditions.

Historically, CPL has offered batsmen-friendly pitches, which also assisted spinners. This year, too, spin is going to play an important part because all the matches will be held at Warner Park, Saint Kitts and Nevis. This pitch is likely to help spinners move the ball.

That’s only fair because it allows a relatively even contest between the bat and the ball. Apart from spinners, even medium-pacers have been effective in the previous editions of CPL, which means there’s something for everyone in this league. That is what makes it worth looking out for.

In the run-up to CPL 2021, Fun88’s experts have analysed betting odds, team compositions, playing conditions, and many other factors to predict the winner, runner-up, top scorer, top wicket-taker, and a lot more.

Read on as we throw light on the likely course of CPL in its ninth edition.

CPL 2021 Predictions for Winner & Runner-Up Teams

CPL 2021 Winner Prediction

After spending countless hours on every nuance of the game, our experts think that Trinbago Knight Riders has the best chance of winning the CPL 2021 cup. If they do so, they will be emerging as CPL winners for the record fifth time.

Sceptics may doubt our prediction, but our assessment shows that no other team has the kind of talented pool this team has. Granted that they have lost their champion bowler, Dwayne Bravo, to St Kitts & Nevis Patriots, but even then, they have Sunil Narine and Khary Pierre, who are wicket-taking bowlers.

Moreover, Trinbago Knight Riders have got the rising leg-spinner from Nepal, Sandeep Lamichhane, on their side. This addition seems well thought of, given that Warner Park provides help to spinners.

Besides, they have the most formidable batting combination, thanks to Kieron Pollard, Colin Munro, and Lendl Simmons. Munro and Simmons were the leading-scorers of CPL in 2018 and 2020, respectively. Munro had hammered an impressive 567 runs in 2018, playing a vital role in Trinbago Knight Riders winning the cup.

Guyana Amazon Warriors is most likely to finish as the runner-up this year. Per se, it’s not bad, but if they indeed lose in the final, it will be the sixth occasion that they will fail to win the final. There’s no denying that Guyana Amazon Warriors is a talented side. They have two of the most destructive T20 batsmen in their line-up: Nicholas Pooran and Shimron Hetmyer.

Pooran has scored more than 3,000 runs in the T20 format, and he’s almost a veteran of limited-overs cricket. Hetmyer, on the other hand, loves dealing in sixes and can quickly propel the run-rate. Brandon King is another talented batsman on their side, who too can win matches.

When it comes to bowling, they have one of the best spinners in the world, Imran Tahir, and also a rising wrist-spinner, Waqar Salamkheil. Guyana Amazon Warriors also has Naveen-ul-Haq, a talented medium-pacer from Afghanistan, who was quite impressive in CPL 2020’s edition.

If Guyana Amazon Warriors has so much talent, the question is: Why can’t they win the cup this time? We think that they don’t have the killer combination of the kind Trinbago Knight Riders has. No doubt they are a talented side, but they need the ability to win the tight moments regularly to win the cup.

Predictions for CPL Top Scorer & Top Wicket-Taker in its Ninth Edition

Colin Munro, the big hitter from New Zealand, is most likely to emerge as the top scorer in CPL’s ninth edition. He’s one of the most prolific batsmen in this league, having earlier also been CPL top scorer.

At 34, we think Munro still has a lot of batting left in him, which Trinbago Knight Riders would love to capitalize on. So far, he has scored 1,753 runs for them at an impressive average of 39.84. After Munro, Lendl Simmons, Nicholas Pooran and Shimron Hetmyer are going to be the other leading scorers of CPL 2021.

Since Warner Park will provide help for spinners, it’s very possible that he would end up being the leading wicket-taker this time around. Imran Tahir is most expected to take maximum wickets in CPL 2021.

Although Tahir has never achieved this feat earlier, he has taken 47 wickets in 32 matches for Guyana Amazon Warriors to date. He’s going to trouble batters with his googlies this time as well.

Dwayne Bravo was the leading wicket-taker twice earlier, but he has switched sides to St Kitts & Nevis Patriots. His wicket-tally will depend upon how far his team goes, and it’s not likely that they will go far.

Bowlers, who are going to give a tough competition to Tahir for most wickets, are Sunil Narine and Sandeep Lamichhane from Trinbago Knight Riders and Hayden Walsh Jr. from Barbados Tridents.

Both Narine and Lamichhane are capable of taking wickets. Narine, in fact, has been a regular in T20 cricket for years, and Hayden Walsh Jr. was the leading wicket-taker in CPL 2019 when he took 22 scalps, but it seems that Tahir has just that bit of an extra edge over other spinners.

So, if you are betting on top scorer and top wicket-taker, Colin Munro and Imran Tahir are your best bets, respectively.

Young Guns to Watch Out for in CPL 2021

CPL 2021 Players To Watch Out!

Although most players who participate in CPL are 30 plus, several young players also play in this league, as it provides them with a great platform to showcase their talent. Playing in CPL gives them international exposure and enables them to hone their skills. Some of these young players can turn out to be match-winners this time.

In the ninth season of CPL, many young spinners will play, hoping to impress everyone with their performance. Like we discussed, Warner Park’s pitch usually helps spin movement, and that’s why teams were eager to sign-up spinners.

For example, Trinbago Knight Riders have a talented, young leg spinner from Nepal, Sandeep Lamichhane, who’s becoming a key feature of T20 matches worldwide. Leg spin, in particular, can be effective at Warner Park.

Other teams also have capable young spinners like Waqar Salamkheil (Guyana Amazon Warriors) and Qais Ahmad (Jamaica Tallawahs).

Waqar Salamkheil and Qais Ahmad are both young cricketers from Afghanistan. They are 19-20 years of age and are looking forward to gaining valuable experience at CPL. While Salamkheil is a left-arm wrist-spinner, Ahmad is a leg spinner. Both can turn the ball enough to trouble even a well-set batsman.

Oshane Thomas (Barbados Tridents) and Naveen-ul-Haq (Guyana Amazon Warriors) are bright young fast-bowlers who’ll be eager to make their mark in CPL 2021.

Oshane Thomas is a 6-foot 6-inch-tall fast bowler from Jamaica who has clocked a speed of 97mph in a CPL match. He can bowl bouncers, yorkers and can also swing the ball.

Naveen-ul-Haq, a 21-year-old fast-medium bowler from Afghanistan, will be looking forward to playing well in this edition of CPL.

Several young cricketers from West Indies are also going to feature in CPL 2021, which includes Joshua Da Silva (St Kitts and Nevis Patriots), Leonardo Julien (Trinbago Knight Riders), Joshua James (Jamaica Tallawahs), and Jayden Seales (Trinbago Knight Riders).

While Da Silva and Julien are wicketkeeper-batsmen, James and Seales are fast bowlers. These players have excelled at the Under-19 level, and they are ready to show their mettle at a bigger stage.

Launched in August 2020 in India, Fun88 is preferred by sports bettors for its broadest portfolio of markets and odds, irrespective of the sport or league. Driven by the key mottos of customer satisfaction and entertainment, Fun88 blends the latest technology and impeccable customer service. No wonder, you will be treated to an innovative experience once you sign up!

Over the past decade, Fun88 has also played an active role in global sports marketing. It has also been the official partner for Caribbean Premier League, besides catapulting the status of cricket to even greater heights, as a celebrated sport all over the world. A valued partner of the Tottenham Hotspur football club since 2012 and the jersey sponsor of Premier League club Newcastle United F.C., Fun88 has always been at the top of the game, literally as well as figuratively! What’s more, it has also been part of football sponsorships and has played a key role in associating with the iconic basketball player Kobe Bryant.

Here’s hoping that this association proves to be rewarding for both Fun88 and Daren’s fan following to make Fun88 a household name, particularly amongst sports lovers.

LagaoShart with Fun88 and Win Amazing Prizes!

This short but exciting video is sure to give you an adrenaline rush, thanks to the oh-so-catchy tagline of Fun88’s brilliant campaigns for the IPL 2021: #LagiShart. As the video points out, Fun88 has also lined up a host of attractive prizes to draw the attention of the gaming audience.

You can win superb gifts including a BMW X7 or a Hayabusa bike, or iPhone 12 models. Even free tickets to the IPL finals have also been announced as a prize for winners. Daren Sammy: The Brand Ambassador for Fun88

Daren Sammy Signed As Fun88 Brand Ambassador

Remember the brilliant cricket player from the West Indies team, Daren Sammy? Well, he has not only been a two-time T20 World-Cup winning captain but has also been a team member of the IPL team Sunrisers Hyderabad. Now coming to the good news from the Fun88 team: one of the leading sports news and betting platforms of India has roped in Sammy as a multi-year Brand Ambassador. Announced on July 9th, this piece of news took Sammy’s fans, both in India and beyond, by delight!

The primary reason for choosing Daren Sammy as the brand ambassador is not only his illustrious cricket career but also the fact that he enjoys a great fan following in India, as well as the subcontinent. We at Fun88 aspire to make the platform the no.1 sports site in India, and for that, the brand endorser should be someone who has a wide mass appeal. Sammy is just the right fit, being a natural leader and an inspiration to many. What’s even more interesting is that Sammy’s jersey number has been 88 for two decades, which establishes a coincidental connection between him and the brand. He was all praises for Fun88 in his media statement, wherein he said he had been following the platform for quite some time now and appreciates how it has evolved.
